Privacy policy
How EduMate Ghana collects, uses and protects personal information, in line with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

Who we are
EduMate Ghana (“EduMate”, “we”) provides an AI learning service on the web, in our mobile app, on WhatsApp and by USSD. We are the data controller for the information described here.
What we collect
- Account details: name, phone number, email (optional), level, class, region, school and language.
- Learning activity: questions you ask the tutor, files you upload, quiz and game results, study plans and progress.
- Payments: the bundle bought, amount and payment reference. Mobile Money and card details are handled by Hubtel; we never see your PIN or full card number.
- Device information: app version, browser type and notification tokens, used to keep the service working and secure.
How we use it
- To answer questions, personalise lessons and show progress to the student, their parent and (for school accounts) their teachers.
- To process payments and credit tokens.
- To keep learners safe — for example, flagging messages that suggest a child may be at risk.
- To improve EduMate. We use aggregated, de-identified statistics for this.
We do not sell personal information and we do not show advertising to students.
AI processing
Tutor questions are sent to our AI providers (such as Anthropic for text and ElevenLabs for voice) only to produce the answer. They process the data on our behalf under contract and may not use it to train their models.
Who can see a student's information
- The student.
- A linked parent or guardian.
- Teachers and administrators at the student's school, for school accounts.
- A small number of EduMate staff, only when needed for support, safety or legal reasons.
Children
Most EduMate learners are under 18. A parent, guardian or school should create or approve a child's account. Parents can view activity, set time limits, pause access and ask us to delete the account.
How long we keep data
We keep account and learning data while the account is active. If an account is closed, we delete or anonymise it within 90 days, except payment records we must keep for tax and accounting.
Your rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete your information, or object to how we use it. Parents can make these requests for their children. Contact us through the contact page and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.
Security
We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls and short-lived access tokens. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password private.
Changes
We will post any changes here and tell account holders about important ones.
